Mrs. Horton with Mr. Danforth,
our local authority on all
things Colonial.
WHO I AM
PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY
I attended school at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. I received my Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Specialization in Reading. I hold a certification in English as a Second Language and have 30 hours of training in Gifted & Talented with annual continuing education.
I began teaching in Dripping Springs ISD in 1997. In 1999, I moved from fourth to fifth grade, and I currently teach ACE Language Arts & Reading. I enjoy learning new skills to utilize in furthering my students' learning.
In the summer of 2006, I attended a school in Cuernavaca, Mexico for four weeks to learn Spanish. Two years later in the summer of 2008, I was awarded a grant through the Dripping Springs Educational Foundation and the Pioneer Foundation to attend the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute in Williamsburg, Virginia.
In February of 2012, I attended the TCEA Conference where I was selected for the Smithsonian "Let's Do History Tour". That same month, two Smithsonian representatives visited my classroom as part of their research on how teachers teach Social Studies around the country. I felt very honored to be a part of their study.
All of these experiences have helped me to enhance my teaching styles dramatically.
Philosophy of Education: Children look to their teachers for guidance and encouragement. It is important to help them learn that success sometimes comes with failure first.
EXPECTATIONS AND GOALS
I expect each student to give their best and be prepared when they enter the classroom to not only learn, but to be able to teach what they learn.
My goal is to make sure that every student reaches, at the very minimum, one year's growth before they leave 5th grade.
